Blech

That's how I feel right now. I woke up feeling nauseous & it hasn't gone away. Blech...Yet, I still dragged my ass to the grocery store! Growing up SUCKS. I wish someone would have told me a long time ago that I will need a shit ton of money to live the way I want to - i.e. pay someone to do my shopping for me. I am totally miss cranky pants right now because I can be. What I mean by growing up sucking is I am responsible for my life. Blah, blah blah....

Sigh...It's like this shit is hard. I can only imagine people who have serious complications on top of that. So my therapist, as I stated in my last post, wants me to go gluten free. Well, she said 'No sugar & no wheat.' Simple enough right?!?! WrONG. Something is going on with me because I am still really sad & I think it has to do with the fact that I have to cook & shop for myself. You know, normal everyday things that most people do all the time without batting an eyelash. Sad truth is, I am not very fond of things called the grocery store. I sat in my car in tears because of the unkown that is this place with bountiful of foods that help you stay alive. Truly, it's a place of sheer terror for me because I have no fucking clue what I am doing there. I guess in laymen's terms, it's like my trying to do calculus when I was an English Lit major. ....

Ok, NO my life doesn't suck. Changing eating habits does. I know, I know...I am supposed to be positive about this shit, but it's hard. One day at a time...one day at a time. Tonight I am going to try some eggplant chicken dish. It's GF/DF/SF. Oh please cooking Gods, let this be a great dish.

Well, I hope everything is well in your world. I am going to go cry in a corner until I have to start this cooking thing again.

  1. Ok, girl. Pick yourself up. Changing eating habits *IS* hard and based on your previous tries your body is probably going to put up a fight, make you feel like crap and totally exhausted. You are going to have to push through. After about 7 days of no sugar, your body will stop craving it. PROMISE.

My advice for the gluten free stuff - don't bother trying to find replacements. Just avoid wheat altogether. No bread. No pasta. No rice. Just don't buy it. 7 days. No more bread cravings. PROMISE.

Honestly, it sounds like you were put on a low-carb diet. You will also lose weight this way. I lost 25 pounds this year. I do eat dairy though. Two eggs cooked in butter every morning (sometimes with ham, bacon, or sausage, too!). Lunch are sandwiches without the bread. I was surprised how good a cheeseburger salad can be! :) I have a great pasta-free lasagna recipe if you want it (does have dairy, though). Adding in the dairy free does make it significantly harder.

Let me know if you want some recipes for low-carb stuff that we enjoy. I'm happy to share.

As for the grocery store, just shop the perimeter. You don't want any of that processed stuff in the middle of the store. Get some fresh veggies and meats. Yes, it does take more work, but it'll be worth it. It's also easy to cook up a bunch of burgers, brats, hot dogs, and/or chicken on one day and have it to munch on through the week. If you've got an easy go-to food your week will go by much more quickly.

Also... did you get off of FB? I don't see you on there anymore? Hope we're still *friends*. :)

  2. Hey Becky!!!! Of course we are still friends ;) I deactivated my FB account. One of my 'grown up' things to do is spend less time on the internet.

I TRULY appreciate your commenting on this post. The funny thing is that I have been thinking about you & TOTALLY stalking your blogs for recipes! I am making kale chips as we speak :) - side note. I just pulled those out of the oven & uh let's say I let them bake too long. Working on a second batch right now. LOL!

I have gotten a lot better since this post. Yeah, it's kind of hard right now because I have to eliminate dairy completely (including eggs :(). Also, I would absolutely love some recipes. I guess I can tweek anything to suit my needs. You are right - just completely leaving out substitutions is a LOT easier.

Again, I truly appreciate your words of encouragement. Let's email if that's ok?!?!
